These instructions will walk you through how to setup the macbook for first time use.
-
You will first want to turn on the Macbook and select “Get Started” followed by English as the main language.
-
Next you will want to select your region which will be the United States (this may take a second to appear).
- For accessibility you will want to select the option “not now.”
- After this you will want to find your wifi network and connect to it. Once the network is selected it will ask for the wifi password in order to connect (this may sit at connecting for up to two minutes).
-
From there you will now be at the Remote Management page and you will want to select continue. After this it will enroll your device into our system which should take a few moments.
-
You will now be on the Create a Computer Account page. Here you will want to enter your full name (first and last) and from there type in the password you would like to use for the computer. The account name should automatically fill once your full name is entered.
-We recommend writing down or making the password something you can remember just in case since it will be needed in order to login to the device. -
The next page will ask if you would like to enable location services which you will want to check and then select continue.
-
For Touch ID you will want to select “Set Up Touch ID Later” (located on the lower left) followed by Continue on the popup that follows.
- On the Choose Your Look page you can select which theme you would like followed by continue.
- Congratulations, the hardest part is so far complete. You will now see a large window that says “Setting up your Mac…” this will most likely take some time to complete ( a few hours) and will install all the apps needed on the Mac for the onboarding.
If this does not appear, please reach out to the IT team here at Interwellhealth and we can for sure assist. - Once completed the Mac window will indicate that all the programs have been installed. From there it is safe to select quit. The computer might also restart at this point automatically and will display page with just the apple logo and and loading bar. If it does not restart automatically though, it is safe to go to step 12.
- After selecting quit you will want to restart the Mac if it did not restart. The restart option can be located in the upper left corner of the Mac at the apple icon. Selecting it followed by “restart” will restart the device.
-
Once the device is restarted it may update for a couple minutes (sometimes up to an hour for larger updates). You should also see a popup at some point asking to “enable FileVault Encryption” which you will want to select continue on. Sometimes the Mac will show it once the computer restarts the first time.
a. If the FileVault Encryption message does not appear the first time it should after step 14 is completed.
b. Sometimes the FileVault message will appear multiple times which is totally fine. -
You will next want to sign back into the Mac and wait about a minute. After this you will want to restart the computer again one more time just in case.
a. Sometimes a Data & Privacy window will appear after first logging in. You will want to select continue and you will also want to select continue for the Analytics page that follows. For screen time you will want to select “Set Up Later” and for the Siri page you will want to not have the “Enable Ask Siri” box checked. After that it is safe to select continue.
b. When going to restart the device you may see a popup that says a Microsoft AutoUpdate is preventing the restart. You will want to select “OK” on the Required Data Notice popup in the background. From there it is safe to select try again for the restart. - After the computer is restarted, the final step you will want to do is to login to the computer again and then it should be safe to shut down the device.
-
Congratulations, you have now successfully set up your new Macbook! IT will reach out with a scheduled onboarding time where they can then connect to the device and set up all the new programs on to the computer.
If you run into any issues during this process or if any programs do not appear please feel free to reach out to the IT department. We would be happy to assist and answer any questions.
